How to enter cheats in GTA V on every platform

Cheats in Grand Theft Auto V single-player are entered in one of three ways: a quick controller button sequence, a typed console command on PC, or an in-game phone number that works on every platform. This guide covers all three.

Controller button sequences (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One)

  1. Load your single-player save (Michael, Franklin, or Trevor).
  2. While free-roaming — not paused, not in a menu — press the cheat's button sequence quickly. There's no pre-confirmation: just enter the buttons.
  3. A small confirmation message appears in the lower-left of the screen when the cheat activates.

If the cheat does not trigger, the most common cause is pressing the buttons too slowly. The game has a short timing window — practice the sequence a couple of times.

The PC console method

PC players have a fourth, dedicated input path: the in-game console.

  1. During gameplay, press the tilde (~) key (the key to the left of 1 on a US keyboard layout).
  2. A small text input appears at the top of the screen.
  3. Type the cheat code in uppercase (for example PAINKILLER) and press Enter.

Cheat strings are short, all uppercase, and never include spaces or numbers — so they're easy to remember.

The in-game phone (every platform)

Every console-and-text cheat in GTA V also has an in-game phone number. This is the most reliable method, especially on console where button sequences can be finicky.

  1. Pull up your character's cellphone.
  2. Open the dial pad and enter the cheat-specific number (for example 1-999-724-6545-537 for Invincibility).
  3. Press call. The cheat activates and your call log records the dial as a normal-looking number — a nice touch for screenshots.

Important caveats

  • Trophies and achievements are disabled for the current play session when any cheat is active. Reload your save without using a cheat to re-enable them.
  • GTA Online has no cheat codes. Every cheat on this site is single-player only. Using exploits or modifications in GTA Online can get your account banned.
  • Cheats do not persist through save/load — re-enter the cheat each time you load your file.
